The Indiana Area School Board will meet tonight, and for the first time in over a year, the meeting will be in person and open to the public, with modification. The meeting will be at the Junior High School to allow for better physical distancing, and board meetings will continue to be available virtually. The district has posted a video on its website to explain parking and attendance procedures.
The agenda contains a lot of personnel items, including hires that can be paid for with the district’s $5.7 million Cares Act ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funding. There are three phases of the grants, and the board will consider both personnel and programs.
The board will also vote on a motion to approve a Memorandum of Understanding with its teachers’ union regarding Extra-Duty, Extra Pay Positions, and on the redesign of the Secondary Summer School Program, which would include a coordinator, eight teachers, and other support positions.
The Buildings & Grounds Committee is also scheduled to meet tonight, with an extensive list of projects to consider. Among the items are the East Pike roof replacement and HVAC improvements; the replacement of the artificial turf at the football field (which is also an item that is on the agenda for the full board to consider); the Eisenhower Elementary entranceway; the district budget, and an ESSER grant funds breakdown. If the full board should approve all of the ESSER projects on its agenda, there would be about $1.9 million left in ESSER funds.
The Purchase Line School Board also meets tonight, in a work session. It has not published its agenda.
