The Pirates made their return to PNC Park on Tuesday and shocked the visiting Kansas City Royals with a 2-1 win. Coming into the game, the Royals had the best record in baseball, 14-7, but the Battlin’ Bucs put on a late rally to continue their recent streak of success.
Wilmer Difo gave Pittsburgh the edge with a go-ahead RBI double in the seventh and Richard Rodriguez sealed the win in the ninth with his fourth save of the year.
Tyler Anderson dropped his season ERA to 3.38 after allowing one earned run over six innings. He would go on to strike out five hitters while allowing two walks. Colin Moran went 3-for-4 with a double while Jacob Stallings collected a pair of hits.
For the first time since their win on Opening Day, the Pirates are over .500 with a 12-11 record. They look to complete the two-game sweep against Kansas City tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m.

TOM ACTIVATED, CASTRO OPTIONED
Prior to Tuesday’s game, the Pirates announced that they have added outfielder Ka’ai Tom to the active roster. Consequently, infielder Rodolfo Castro was optioned to the alternate training site.
Tom was placed on the 10-day injured list while he was waiting to be medically cleared to play.
