IUP will receive millions of dollars in federal aid to help with the impact of Covid-19 on the campus community.
The money is part of $36 billion that was announced last week by the U.S. Department of Education under the American Rescue Plan. About 5,000 post-secondary institutions will receive a portion of that funding. At least half of the money doled out must go to student aid, with the rest used for institutional expenses created by the pandemic. That could range from costs related to virus mitigation to remote learning expenses.
Money awarded this time should double or in some cases, more than double the emergency aid that was sent out to students and schools as part of the CARES act and the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act.
IUP’s portion of the federal aid will come to $26,934,345. According to information from the U.S. Department of Education, IUP needs to use at least $13,508,299 for student aid, with the rest going towards institutional expenses.
Officials at IUP are currently working on how to spend that money, and that information will be released at a later date.
