It wasn’t easy, but the Penguins survived a crazy third period and beat the New York Islanders in game three of their NHL East playoff series.

Besides Tanev’s game winner, Jeff Carter had two goals and the Penguins got goals from Kris Letang and Jason Zucker.
Evgeni Malkin returned to the lineup and had two primary assists, but played little in the rough third period as coach Mike Sullivan appeared reluctant to risk Malkin reinjuring his knee. For the game, Malkin logged 17 shifts and 12:10 of ice time.
Sullivan credited his players with remaining focused when things got out of hand in the third period.
Sullivan said this Penguins group can handle themselves when things get rough.
Jeff Carter says teams have to be able to rebound when things don’t go their way in the playoffs.
Carter says the Penguins may not be perceived as being a rugged group, but they are plenty tough.
Brandon Tanev says it was a wild ride in the third period.
Tanev credits his teammates for setting up his game-winning goal.
