The PIAA Track & Field championship are this weekend at Shippensburg University, as the Heritage Conference teams along with WPIAL athletes from Indiana compete in the final athletic events of the school year.
A number of schools had send-offs yesterday for their athletes, including the Saltsburg track and field team, which received an escort from the Saltsburg, Tunnelton, and Blairsville fire departments from Saltsburg to Blairsville, where they joined Blairsville’s team members for the trip. This could be the final athletic competition for Saltsburg High School, with the anticipated closure of the school.
Yesterday, the action on the ball fields came to a close for area teams with the ouster of the Saltsburg baseball team and Marion Center softball team from the District 6 playoffs.
