Indiana Fire Association members were busy with back-to-back fire calls on Memorial Day.
The first of the two calls came in at 1:11 PM as Indiana County 911 dispatched Indiana Fire Association for a fire on Queen Lane in Indiana. The home was filling with smoke when the resident, who was not named in a report from the fire department, called 911. When crews got to the house, nothing was showing, but firefighters did discover smoke inside the home. Crews were on the scene for about an hour.
The second fire was reported just as crews were re-setting their equipment at 3:01 PM. Crews were dispatched to a home in the Vinegar Hill section of Water Street.
Company 3 Captain Matt Byerly said that the fire was discovered after someone went inside and found the dryer and laundry surrounding it had caught fire. Byerly said the fire did spread quickly.
Four other fire companies responded to the scene including Homer City, Clymer, Creekside and Black Lick fire companies. No injuries were reported.
