The 2021 Primary Election results have been made official and are now available for public inspection.
Results showed that close to 37 percent of Indiana County’s voters turned out for the election, casting a total of 18,262 votes. The majority of those ballots were cast on the day of the election, with 14,401 votes reported on election day. Another 3,856 votes in Indiana County were classified as mail-in or absentee ballots, and five of the ballots counted were recorded as provisional.
Many of the results are unchanged from the unofficial results posted after votes were counted on May 18th. In the County Court of Common Pleas race, Gina Force earned the Republican nomination, while Pat Dougherty earned the Democrat nomination. In the register and recorder race, Maria Jack earned the Republican nomination over Karen Vehovic-Green and the Democrat nomination went to Marlene Connelly, who ran unopposed.
One race that will be watched in November will be the Center Township Supervisors race. On the Democrat ballot, Dave “Butch” Smyers received the nomination with 285 votes over 276 votes for Paul Colgan. On the Republican ballot, there were no official candidates listed, but Colgan received 122 of the 174 write-in votes casts in that race, earning the nomination in a write-in campaign.
In the contested races for the Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board, Jessica Clawson won both the Democrat and Republican nominations for Region 2 over George Boros. In Region 3, Melanie Cribbs Pantalone won both nominations over Nathan Baird.
