The Pirates lost a home run and a baseball game last night at PNC Park. Joe Block has a recap of a disappointing night.
Ke’Bryan Hayes hit a first-inning home run off the right field foul pole, but he missed the first base bag as he ran the bases, and the Dodgers won an appeal which reversed the homer, turning it instead into an out. Manager Derek Shelton said Hayes handled it well after his baserunning mistake cost him the home run.
After giving up the home run that was reversed, Dodgers starter Walker Beuhler went seven shutout innings. Shelton says the Pirates hit the ball well but they couldn’t score runs.
The Pirates activated Mitch Keller from the covid/injured list and he’s scheduled to start tomorrow afternoon against LA. Utility player Phillip Evans was activated from the injured list and struck out as a pinch hitter for the final out of the game last night. Returning from a hamstring injury, Evans was 6-13 with two doubles in a five-game rehab stint in Indianapolis. The Bucs designated Wilmer Difo for assignment and optioned reliever Austin Davis to Indy in order to clear roster space for Evans and Keller.
