After nearly a week off due to the All-Star break, the Pirates are back in action tonight as they welcome the New York Mets to PNC Park.
The Pirates split their final series before the break in Queens, ending the first half of the season with a 6-5 come-from-behind win against the Mets. David Bednar got the win after Wilmer Difo and John Nogowski came through in the clutch with a pair of RBI singles.
Greg Brown has a full preview of tonight’s rematch between the Bucs and Mets.
The Pirates have not announced their starter for tonight’s game yet, but if they decide to follow the standard “five day” rule, it would be Wil Crowe who would get the nod. However, if manager Derek Shelton opts to go with his No. 1 starter in the rotation due to his pitchers resting up over the past week, it would be southpaw Tyler Anderson.
The MeTs list Marcus Stroman as their tentative starter for tonight. He is 6-7 with a 2.75 ERA this season.
Airtime tonight on WCCS 101.1 FM and AM 1160 is 6:40.
The Yankees second-half opener was postponed due to a number of players testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday.
Pitchers Jonathan Loaisiga, Nestor Cortes Jr., and Wandy Peralta each tested positive, prompting the MLB to postpone the team’s series opener against the Boston Red Sox.
Additionally, Aaron Judge, Kyle Higashioka, and Gio Urshela were placed into COVID-19 protocols. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said all three pitchers were fully vaccinated and that three other players were awaiting test results in quarantine. Major League Baseball has yet to make a decision on postponing Friday’s game against the Red Sox.
