At Tuesday’s Indiana Borough Council planning session, council received their mid-year report from Police Chief Justin Schawl.
Schawl did note that in 2020, the number of calls for service did go up during the Covid-19 Pandemic, but Chief Schawl said that the spike was attributed to the number of safety checks performed by police.
Schawl expects call numbers to be back to pre-pandemic levels this year.
Schawl also commented on the National Night Out event held before the meeting. Schawl was happy with the turnout of the event, and it was a good chance to build police-community relationships.
While there was no official action taken during last night, an update was given on the progress of the project to upgrade the meeting room so meetings can be broadcast online. Borough Manager C. Michael Foote said that they were able to repurpose some funds in a grant to use towards the purchase of the equipment. No timeline is in place yet for when the project will be finished.
