Wallethub has released its list of equitable school districts in Pennsylvania, and found that three Indiana County school districts are in the top 50.
The study looks at where school funding is distributed most equitably, with 499 school districts taking part in the study. The study was based on two metrics: The average household income in the district and expenditures per elementary and secondary student.
All of Indiana County’s Districts ranked in the upper half of the survey. For Indiana County districts:
• Penns Manor was ranked 31st with a score of 1.88. (Expenditures are at $18,581 and district income is $52,614)
• River Valley School District (listed in the survey still as Blairsville-Saltsburg) was ranked 37th with a score of 2.34 (Expenditures at $18,329 and income is $50,968)
• Purchase Line is right behind at 38th position with a score of 2.53 (expenditures at $20,560 and income by district is $45,068)
• United was 61st, with a score of 4.36. (Expenditures at $17,317 and income is $53,764)
• Marion Center was ranked 109th with a score of 8.66. (Expenditures at $16,829 and district income is $53,015)
• Indiana is ranked 211th with a score of 18.76 (Expenditures at $16,698 and income is $47,172)
• Homer-Center is ranked 238th with a score of 21.23 (Expenditures are at $15,798 and Income is around $49,229)
The most equitable school district in the state is Gettysburg Area while the least equitable is Lower Merion School District in Montgomery County.
In a subsequent study, Wallethub said that Pennsylvania ranked 29th out of 50 states for education equity, with a score of 27.63.
