IUP has announced a new initiative that will be part of the 2020-2025 strategic plan: A university common hour.
The common hour starts this academic year, and is designed to set aside 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM Monday through Friday. The primary purposes of the Common Hour will be to support IUP’s student-centered strategic goals by providing a common time each day that allows students to take part in meetings and activities or seek assistance; improve accessibility and cooperative interactions among faculty, students and staff; and enhance the sense of community throughout the university.
Several suggested activities include faculty/staff and student group meetings, faculty holding an extra office hour to be available to students, and community building events.
The first Thursday of each month has been set aside for university-wide community-building events.
Two events have already been planned for the Common Hour so far:
- Thursday, September 10th will have an overview of IUP NextGen, the university’s strategic plan, enrollment plan and University Advancement campaign planning. This will be at Gorrell Recital Hall from 11:30 to 12:30.
- Friday, September 10th will be the annual 9/11 remembrance ceremony scheduled to be held in the IUP Oak Grove.
