The St. Louis Cardinals routed the Pirates, 13-0, Saturday, and once again Adam Wainwright dominated the Bucs from the mound, blanking the Pirates for seven innings on just three hits.
Steven Brault, on the other hand, did not fare well in three innings of work for the Pirates, surrendering seven earned runs on eight hits. The Pirates used five other pitchers, including infielder Wilmer Difo, to finish out the game.
The Pirates also officially released Gregory Polanco on Saturday. According to the team’s official media release, infielder Cole Tucker “is expected” to be called up from Triple-A to take Polanco’s spot on the active roster.
“Gregory has been a true professional throughout his entire Pirates career, including in our conversation with him regarding today’s roster move,” Pirates GM Ben Cherington said. “He has been a great teammate who always handled himself with class and took a great deal of pride in representing the Pirates and the city of Pittsburgh. We wish him nothing but success moving forward.”
