After having Columbus Day off, the Indiana County Courts will be busy today, with the county’s court of common pleas holding several sentencing hearings today.
Among those to be sentenced today is Waylon Strange, a 40-year-old from Indiana. In that case, which dates back to February 21st of this year, he was accused of resisting arrest, tampering with evidence, disorderly conduct, possession of a controlled substance and of drug paraphernalia, simple assault and strangulation. On August 6th, he pleaded guilty to the resisting arrest charge, while the other charges were not prosecuted. Strange has a lengthy criminal history in the county, as he pleaded guilty to drug-related crimes for a case that happened in mid-October and in April of last year.
Plea court proceedings are also on the docket, including one for 47-year-old Larry Dunlap. He is charged with attempted aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, simple assault, harassment and possession of an instrument of crime. This was for an incident on January 23rd of this year, where he allegedly got into an argument with a woman over methamphetamine and the argument turned physical. The woman had to be taken to the Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center by helicopter for treatment.
Also, Devin Butler of Coral will have a plea court hearing today. He is expected to enter a plea for a charge of receiving stolen property on May 3rd of this year. He also has some history in the county judicial system, as he faced drug related charges in two separate cases from January and February of 2016.
