An open house event will be held tonight at the S&T Bank Arena to have discussions on the proposed White Township Deer Management Program.
The program will be on display from 6:30 to 8:00 tonight on the turf side of the arena. Part of the deer management plan would be to allow bow hunters into white’s woods and other areas to hunt deer in an effort to control the population. This is based on a the plan from Murrysville that has seen significant success.
Not only will there be a representative from Murrysville’s Rec Department present, but there will also be reps from the PA Game Commission, the National Deer Association, IUP, Penn State Cooperative Extension, and White Township’s contracted forester, Mike Lawer.
One concern that has been brought up related to the deer management plan is the safety of individuals who walk the trails, and White Township Recreation Director Ryan Shaffer said that he hopes that people on both side of that issue contribute.
The open house format will allow people to have one-on-one discussions with the experts in a safe environment. It is open to everyone, not just White Township residents. Public comments will be accepted at the open house and will be used to guide the Township Supervisors in either accepting or making changes to the proposed deer management program.
