On Monday, Governor Tom Wolf announced that the mask mandate for schools will come to an end on January 17th, and the decision on whether to mask or not will be given back the school districts and their respective boards.
The current mandate from the State Department of Health requires masks to be worn in K-12 school buildings, early learning programs and child care providers for both children and adults, regardless of vaccination status. The Wolf administration expects that to change for K-12 schools in mid-January, while the full order would remain in effect for early learning programs and child care providers until further notice. The mandate was issued in early September as schools were returning to session and as the Covid-19 Delta Variant became the prevailing version of the virus being spread. Wolf said that a lot has changed since then, with over 70 percent of Pennsylvania adults now vaccinated and the expanded availability of Covid-19 vaccines for children ages five to 11.
Wolf continues to encourage everyone to take safety measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, including getting vaccinated.
