A Homer City woman died in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on Route 422 near Route 954/South 6th Street ramp in White Township.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police report, a dump truck driven by an unidentified 52-year-old Northern Cambria man was traveling west on 422 when the crash occurred. A 2000 Ford Focus, driven by the unidentified Homer City woman, entered the South 6th Street exit ramp traveling the wrong direction and then merged onto 422 westbound, facing the oncoming dump truck. The operator of the dump truck attempted to avoid the Focus by swerving from the left to right lane, but a head-on collision occurred. Both vehicles came to rest in the center median.
The collision occurred at approximately 9:28 A.M. The Homer City woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say she was wearing a seat belt. A passenger in her car, a 78-year-old woman also of Homer City, was transported to IRMC, then flown to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center via LifeFlight. State Police reported that her injuries were serious but she is expected to survive. No injuries were reported for the driver of the dump truck.
