Indiana Borough’s new mayor will be sworn into office tonight.
During the reorganization meeting that will be held tonight at 6:30, new mayor William Simmons will be sworn in by Indiana County Judge Michael Clark. Simmons was elected Mayor of Indiana Borough after a closely-contested race between him and the then-acting mayor Joseph Trimarchi. The count came down to an eleven vote margin between the two, with Simmons holding the lead when Trimarchi conceded the election the following morning, saying he would not be able to make up the difference.
Simmons is a former member of Indiana Borough Council and is also the current president of the Indiana Fire Association.
After being sworn in, Simmons will then swear in the incoming members of Indiana Borough Council. Council will then elect the borough council president and vice president before continuing with their regular meeting at 7:00 PM. The proceedings will also be available online.
