In Indiana County Court today, many defendants will have criminal call hearings, including a few people in some high-profile cases.
One of those is 22-year-old Mamadi Saccoh of Philadelphia, who is charged in connection with the Valentines Day 2020 shooting and robbery of two rental homes along Wayne Avenue. Saccoh along with Daron Reel, Jr., Nafis Harper, and Samuel Wilson are accused of robbing the two rented houses, and the shooting of a man in one of the houses. The victim survived the shooting. Reel has already been sentenced to 57 months to 10 years and a year of probation in connection with the case. Harper is scheduled for sentencing on February 18th after pleading guilty one count of robbery-inflict serious bodily injury. Wilson is due for sentencing on February 25th for the same charge.
Terrion Gates of Philadelphia will also be in court today for a criminal call hearing. He is charged with Criminal Homicide, Robbery-inflicting serious bodily injury and theft by unlawful taking in connection with the shooting death of Jadeyn Wright at the Carriage House apartments in Indiana on October 17th of 2020.
Also due in court today is Paul Lester Eckenroad IV of Blairsville, who is accused of leading police on a high-speed chase from Blairsville into Westmoreland County in August of last year. Police were trying to pull him over for an expired registration when he sped off on South Walnut Street. The chase ended in Derry Township as Eckenroad tried to turn right onto Cherry Street but went off the road and into wet grass. He surrendered after that. Along with fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, he faces several summary traffic charges.
Although there are 67 criminal call hearings on the schedule, the majority of them will most likely not see any action. Criminal Call often involves a request for continuation but on rare occasions there is a plea entered by the defendant.
