Two more Republican straw polls were held this weekend in the races for governor and U.S. senator, and Delaware County businessman Dave White won the governor’s nod in the Southwest Pennsylvania region, which includes Indiana County and ten others. White got 31 votes. Pittsburgh attorney Jason Richey had 13 and no other candidate had more than four.
For Senate, former hedge fund manager David McCormick, who recently moved back to Pennsylvania from Connecticut, gathered 35 votes, over three times more than any other candidate.
Results from the Northwest Region meeting last night have not been published. The Republican State Committee meets next Saturday to decide whether or not they will endorse a candidate in the Spring Primary.
The Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee yesterday unanimously endorsed state Attorney General Josh Shapiro for governor, but did not settle on a candidate for U.S. Senate. Congressman Conor Lamb pulled in 169 votes, which was far more than any other candidate, but he was nine votes short of the required two-thirds majority required to gain the endorsement. Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman had 64 votes and State Representative Malcolm Kenyatta had 42.
