On Friday, the IUP Council of Trustees approved a new tuition plan that will reduce the cost of college for undergraduate in-state students.
Effective in the Fall 2022 semester, IUP will reduce tuition for current and prospective in-state undergraduate students by $1,854 per year if they are taking 15 credits a semester. That results in a near 20 percent reduction in tuition. If a student decides to go 18 credits a semester, the savings go up to $3,678, or 32 percent.
The plan means students who are enrolled in 12 to 18 credits a semester will pay $7,716 for tuition.
IUP Council of Trustees Chairman Sam Smith said that IUP’s financial issues have been critically important as of late, and that the new tuition plan reflects the priority of presenting a quality education at an affordable price. Over the last three years, the University has frozen tuition fees and meal costs, and housing costs have been steady since 2016.
The plan now moves forward to the State System of Higher Education for the board’s approval at their next meeting on March 2nd.
