Energy operations will continue for the Homer City Generation Station.
According to a news release, Homer City Generation L.P. officials notified the facility’s ownership group, PJM Interconnection LLC that it intends to continue coal operations while exploring additional redevelopment projects. This means the preservation of 129 jobs at the plant, and the plant will continue to provide ongoing benefits to the community.
On February 14th of this year, Homer City Generation said they had requested an exemption to the must-offer requirement for PJM’s upcoming annual base residual auction while a final determination on participation and subsequent deactivation of the plant’s units would be made this month.
Homer City Generation President and CEO William Wexler said in a statement that “We did a lot of hard work to examine and re-evaluate the operation and economics of our Homer City units.” He added that he was happy with the decision to continue operations, backed by the employees of the facility.
The facility has been in operation since 1969. The current ownership group took over in April of 2017.
