Defense was the theme for the New York Rangers last night as they came away with their second win in the NHL Eastern Conference Final, beating the defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-2, at Madison Square Garden.
Nikita Kucherov gave the Lightning an early lead in the first, scoring on a man-advantage two minutes into the game. The Rangers, however, posted two goals throughout the period to take a lead into the first intermission. Miko Zibanejad sealed the win with a goal just a minute and a half into the third period.
Igor Shesterkin converted 29 of 31 save opportunities last night.
Game three of the Western Conference Finals is tonight as the Colorado Avalanche take a 2-0 series lead into Edmonton. Puck drop is at 8 p.m.
NBA
Game two of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors tips off tomorrow night. Boston has the momentum after a comeback win on Thursday.
FRENCH OPEN
Rafael Nadal punched his ticket to the final round of the French Open on Friday after taking down Alexander Zverev in Paris. Zverev retired from the contest early after twisted his right ankle. Nadal has a shot to become the oldest French Open champion as he faces Grand Slam finalist Casper Ruud on Sunday.
NASCAR
The NASCAR Cup Series will finally be heading to World Wide Technology Raceway on Sunday. The Enjoy Illinois 300 presented by TicketSmarter will take place at Gateway Motorsports Park. Denny Hamlin enters the race with plenty of momentum. Hamlin won the Coca-Cola 600 last Sunday.
