An IUP professor in the department of mathematical and computer science has been selected to study in Bhutan as part of the Fulbright Scholar Fellow program.
According to a university news release, math professor Yu-ju Kuo is the only United States educator selected for the Fulbright program to go to the South Asian for the 2022-2023 academic year. She will spend ten months as a professor at Sherubtse College, part of the Royal University of Bhutan. Along with teaching, Kuo will supervise student projects. As the college she is headed to has no graduate program in math, she wants to build a connection between there and IUP’s graduate math program.
IUP Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Laura Luetkehans said in a statement that receiving a Fulbright Scholar invitation is a sign of a faculty member’s commitment to academic service and excellence. She added that Kuo will not only be able to enrich the lives of the students in Bhutan, but she will also be able to bring what she learned back to students at IUP.
Close to 70 IUP professors have been selected for the Fulbright Scholar Fellow program, and 18 students are Fulbright scholarship recipients.
