The Penguins took a 3-0 lead in their preseason game in Detroit last night, then held off the Red Wings in the third period to grab a 3-2 win. Bryan Rust, Josh Archibald, and Jason Zucker scored for the Pens and Casey DeSmith went the whole way in goal, racking up 37 saves.
Coach Mike Sullivan liked what he saw in the first two periods, but to him it was an incomplete performance.
The Pens have lost forward Radim Zohorna on a waiver claim by the Calgary Flames. Four other players, veteran forwards Drake Caggiula and Alex Nylander, defenseman Xavier Ouellet, and goaltender Dustin Tokarski, cleared waivers and will report to Wilkes Barre-Scranton.
Goaltender Filip Lindberg was recalled from Wilkes Barre-Scranton to back up DeSmith last night after Tristan Jarry fell ill.
