A suspect in a domestic incident from Cambria County is dead after a high-speed police chase ended with a crash on Route 22 in Derry Township.

State Police Trooper Steve Limani said that the investigation started as police in Richland Township, Cambria County were called out for the felony domestic incident that involved a handgun. The suspect fled as police tried to take him into custody. After going on to Route 22, Richland Township Police broke off the chase and State Police took over. Limani said that police did try to get him to pull over, including attempting a “pit maneuver”.
Limani also commended Richland Police for their decision to disengage and let State Police take over the chase.
The name of the suspect has not yet been released. State Troopers were assisted by PennDOT and Blairsville and Black Lick fire departments with traffic control and with the Westmoreland County Coroner’s and District Attorney’s office. Troopers were not injured in the incident.
