The IUP Crimson Hawks won’t take long to familiarize themselves with their opponent for this week’s Super Region One final. The Shepherd Rams will visit George P. Miller Stadium on Saturday, just three weeks after playing and losing to IUP in the PSAC championship game. Shepherd beat Slippery Rock, 37-27, last Saturday while IUP edged Ashland, 19-13.
Associate Head Coach Jim Smith said after Saturday’s win that IUP knows how good Shepherd is.
IUP All-American wide receiver Duane Brown played on Saturday after missing the first Shepherd game with a knee injury. Leading rusher Dayjure Stewart, who suffered a knee injury in the first quarter of the Shepherd game, missed the Ashland game and his status is not yet determined for this week.
The other Regional finals this weekend will be Wingate at West Florida, Ferris State at Grand Valley State, and Colorado School of Mines at Angelo State. The final four teams will be reseeded, so IUP or Shepherd will have to wait to find out their opponent.
Coach Paul Tortorella joins Jack Benedict tonight for Hawk Talk from the CH Fields Craft Kitchen at the Hilton Garden Inn at 6 o’clock on 92.5 FM U92 and on Renda Digital TV, at U92radio.com.
