Pennsylvanians without health insurance coverage are reminded that Sunday is the final day to purchase coverage through the state’s online health insurance marketplace, Pennie.
The Pennie marketplace is seen as a way that state residents can save money on the monthly cost of health insurance coverage. In a statement, Acting Insurance Commissioner Michael Humphreys said he encourages people to explore the options available on Pennie, even if they already have health insurance. Families across the state are saving more this open enrollment period due to a change in federal policy for families who get coverage through work. With that change, nine out of ten Pennie customers receive savings, with the average savings being $500 a month.
Anyone who has open enrollment will see the health insurance policy go into effect on February 1st. After that, people who experience a major change in life, like a marriage or the birth of a child, may be eligible for a special enrollment period.
