State police arrested a Penn Run man after rear-ending a state police cruiser on Friday and spitting in a trooper’s face.
Troopers charged 39-year-old David Paul Dilts with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and simple assault and several summary vehicle code violations for the incident on February 24th along Airport Road near Spearman Road in Cherryhill Township.
A 1997 Ford F-150 going east along Airport Road and allegedly rear-ended the cruiser, resulting in moderate damage to the cruiser and disabling damage to the truck. After the collision, police said Dilts got out of the truck and aggressively approached and shouted at the trooper
Dilts was also suspected for driving under the influence as police spotted a white-powdery substance around his nose. When troopers tried to administer field sobriety tests, he became angry and refused to follow commands. While he was handcuffed, he spat a chunk of chewing tobacco in the officer’s face. He was later taken to IRMC for a legal blood draw, then placed in Indiana County Jail. Additional charges could come pending the results of the blood test.
Police also say Dilts was wanted for a hit-and-run crash in White Township after he allegedly rear-ended a GMC Sierra on an on-ramp to Route 286. Additional charges were filed in connection with that collision.
Dilts was arraigned on Friday and remains in county jail after bail was denied. A preliminary hearing is set for March 13th.
