State budget hearings continue in both the state house and senate, and in a recent hearing in the house, concerns were brought up concerning the issuance of professional licenses.
The main topic that was brought up was the process and how long it was taking to actually get the license issued. Acting secretary of state Al Schmidt said that one part of the problem was the number of vacancies that the agency is dealing with.
A new professional licensing system is to be implemented, but the big concern is that it will not be ready until 2024. That has State Representative Jim Struzzi concerned as he feels something should be done as soon as possible to address the issue.
Hearings are currently on hold for the holiday weekend, and are set to resume next Tuesday, and they will wrap up next Friday.
