The YMCA is held its annual Good Friday breakfast this morning.
This year marks the 66th annual Good Friday Breakfast for the Y. This year’s keynote speaker is Travis Freeman, the CEO of the Freeman Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to helping disabled individuals.
The Kentucky native was diagnosed with Cavernous Sinus Thrombosis at the age of 12, and while he had surgery that saved his life, he was left blind. He did not let his blindness hold up his dream of playing football in High School and was the center on his football team for four years.
He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Kentucky, where he served as equipment manager of the football team, and went on to earn a Masters of Divinity and Doctorate of Philosophy from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is currently an adjunct professor at the University of the Cumberlands along with his non-profit work, and his story was the inspiration for the movie “23 Blast” and a published book: “Lights Out: Living in a Sightless World”.
