The preliminary hearing for a man charged with robbing a convenience store in downtown Indiana is scheduled for today.
Court documents show 54-year-old Joseph Frances Hamay of Indiana is due before Judge Susanne Steffee today at 10:15 AM to answer to charges of robbery with the threat of serious injury, robbery by force, theft, receiving stolen property, simple assault and possession of an instrument of a crime. The charges stemmed from an incident on April 6th when Indiana Borough Police were called in to investigate the robbery of the Philadelphia Street Convenience Store in the 700 block of Philadelphia Street. Hamay allegedly went into the store and behind the counter, demanding cash while brandishing a knife. Police were able to use store surveillance video to identify Hamay and his clothes were found discarded nearby.
Hamay has been in Indiana County Jail since his arrest as he was unable to post $75,000 cash bail.
