As the weather improves, more motorcycles will hit the roads, and PennDOT, the State Police and Govenor Josh Shapiro are reminding everyone of some things all motorists can do to keep safe.
Shapiro has declared the month of May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month throughout the state of Pennsylvania. As part of that, the Shapiro administration is reminding drivers and motorcyclists to share the road, obey traffic laws and watch out for one another. In 2022, there were about 3,369 crashes involving motorcycles on Pennsylvania Roadways, resulting in 217 fatalities. That does represent a decrease in both categories from 3,578 crashes and 230 deaths in 2021.
State Police Director for the Bureau of Patrol Major Robert Krol said the best thing for motorcyclists is to ride responsibly and safely, never hesitate to seek out training if it is needed, and to never drive or ride impaired.
