At their recent meeting on July 8th, officials with the Pennsylvania Game Commission revealed that several areas of Indiana County will see expansions in state game lands.
Officials say roughly 27 acres in Montgomery Township adjoining State Game Land 262 was acquired in exchange for nine acres of game lands from the same township. Additionally, 4.55 acres of land in Burrell Township adjoining State Game Land 153 was acquired in exchange for three-quarters of an acre in Smith Township, Washington County (Game Land 117) and three parcels in Young Township (Game Land 332). The amount of land taken from Young Township measures roughly 0.5, 0.1 and 0.09 acres.
Burrell Township also received one acre of land in State Game Land 276. This was purchased using money from the Game Fund.
Currently, the Game Commission owns and manages more than 1.5 million acres of state game lands meant for managing wildlife and ensuring lawful hunting and trapping.
