Penguins coach Mike Sullivan got his first look at the team yesterday as training camp opened in Cranberry, and he has a lot of new faces to get used to.
Sullivan said it’s the biggest turnover both on the roster and in the front office since he came to the Pens, but that’s to be expected when you miss the playoffs. He says he will be learning as much about the new players as he possibly can during the preseason.
One player Sullivan is very familiar with remains out after ankle surgery this summer. Jake Guentzel skated with other injured teammates before practice yesterday. He’s expected to miss at least the first five games of the season, and Sullivan said that’s a big loss.
The Penguins play their first preseason game against Columbus at PPG Paints Arena on Sunday.
The 2023 NHL Global Series kicks off in Australia when the Arizona Coyotes and Los Angeles Kings face one another for a pair of preseason games at the Rod Laver tennis arena in Melbourne, Australia tomorrow and Sunday.
