With the State House of Representatives getting ready to return to session this coming week, a State Senator is looking to show that cooperation can happen, even if the Government is divided.
In an op-ed, Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman said that his caucus has fought for fiscal responsibility and limiting the overreach of government, and that has shown in the recent upgrade in the state’s financial status with Moody’s. But while their priorities will not waiver, he said that it’s their duty to show that with the state house and the Governor’s office in Democratic hands, they and the senate can and will work together. He added that “Effective leadership and legislating means working to understand the perspectives of both sides. By tackling the pressing issues we see coming on the horizon, and then removing those issues from the table, we can move forward step-by-step.”
He also referenced the House’s recent period of inactivity that is expected to end next week as they return to session after a special election earlier week, and that while they have been inactive, the senate has passed a bill on school safety legislation and funding. He says its time for the state house to return to session so they can help solve some of the problems that Pennsylvanians face.
