The superintendent of the River Valley School District was honored with an award from the Pittsburgh Technology Council.

Phillip Martell was given the “Innovation in Education” award from the council in an award ceremony on Sunday at the Robotics Factory in Pittsburgh. It recognizes Martell’s commitment to educational excellence and innovation in the region. He was selected for the award based on his achievements in various areas of education that aligned with this year’s theme, “Transformative EdTECH: Revolutionizing Learning and Work.”
According to a news release, he was honored for his work in opening the STEAM academy at the former Saltsburg High School, along with his collaborative work with the South Allegheny and Monessen City School Districts in bringing the STEAM Academy’s CyberSecurity curriculum to students throughout the region.
