IUP has announced that the percentage of student retention between the start of the fall semester and the start of the spring semester reached record-setting levels this year.
The university saw enrollment grow by 6.5 percent in spring 2024, compared to spring 2023. The university also achieved a 90.1 percent retention rate for first-year full-time bachelor’s degree-seeking students for this semester, which is the highest fall-to-spring retention rate for this group of students since 2010. In the spring semester, IUP’s total enrollment came to 8,536, including 6501 undergrads, 1,726 graduate students and 309 students in career prep programs.
IUP president Dr. Michael Driscoll said in a news release that the retention rate, increased enrollment and academic success was encouraging and reflected the work of the entire university community and credited the new student success infrastructure put in place last summer as a key part to that success. He said that when the program launched, “we made it clear that becoming a more student-centered university was everyone’s responsibility, that we must work together to provide every student at every level, in every program, with the support and resources they need to be successful to complete their studies and achieve their goals,”
