While a drought watch was lifted in nearby Westmoreland County, voluntary water conservation efforts remain in place for those served by the Beaver Run Reservoir.
Westmoreland County, along with five other counties across the state had their drought watch status lifted yesterday by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. This means that there has been enough precipitation through rain and snow over the past few months to reduce any concerns over precipitation deficits.
Despite that, officials with the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County say that the water conservation efforts put in place last December remain in effect until further notice. The Beaver Run Reservoir serves Saltsburg and other areas of Indiana and Westmoreland Counties and is now up to 1,038.6 feet above sea level, which is equivalent to over 6.8 billion gallons of water. Officials say that they want to make sure that there is a steady recovery in the reservoir’s water level before the conservation request is lifted.
