The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County has lifted water restrictions for customers served by the Beaver Run Reservoir.
This affects about 56,000 customers, including some in Saltsburg, who had been asked to voluntarily and later were mandated to cut back on water use as the levels at the reservoir had dropped to a level of 1032.2 feet above sea level in January. A few days ago, the state lifted its drought watch for Westmoreland County, but the Municipal authority wanted to make sure that water levels would be above drought level for the dam. As of today, the water levels are at 1,041.7 feet above sea level, so the cut backs were removed.
A lack of rain and snow were blamed for the drop in the water level at the reservoir, but since then, there has been a lot of precipitation in the area. That along with the conservation efforts has allowed the water levels to return to normal.
