Manager Derek Shelton liked the work of Josh Fleming, who earned the win on the mound with two scoreless innings. Fleming signed a split contract with the Bucs last month after four years with Tampa Bay, and Shelton likes his versatility.

The Bucs announced the signing of free agent pitcher Eric Lauer to a minor league contract. They also assigned outfielder Canaan Smith-Njigba and pitcher Colin Selby to Indianapolis, shortstop Tsung-Che Cheng to Altoona, and top infield prospects Termarr Johnson and Jack Branigan to minor league camp with no official team designation yet. 27 players were signed to pre-arbitration contracts for this season.
