The USDA Farm Service Agency is announcing that they have funding available for Targeted Underserved Groups and Beginning Farmer Loans.
These loans are designed to help farmers purchase and operate family farms, and are meant to turn around the declining number of farmers and ranchers across the US and especially in our area. The USDA defines a targeted underserved group as a group whose members have been subjected to racial, ethnic or gender prejudice because they identify as members of those groups. Ownership loans can be used to purchase or enlarge a farm, purchase easements or rights of way as needed, build or move buildings, promote soil and water conservation and pay closing costs. The operational loans can be used for the purchase of livestock, poultry, farm and home equipment, feed, seed, fuel, fertilizer, crop insurance, food, clothing, medical care and hired labor.
