Pennsylvania Auditor General Timothy DeFoor and representatives with IUP gathered on campus this afternoon to honor the university’s first graduate of the “Intern-to-Hire” program.
Austin Pastal became the second student from a state-owned university to land a career with the Auditor General’s office, and he’s also the first IUP student to achieve this milestone upon graduation. He graduated in January with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minor in economics, and interned with the department last summer.
Pastal said interning with the Auditor General’s office has been a rewarding experience for him.
He adds the transition from being an intern to working full-time with the department was easy.
DeFoor lauded Pastal’s efforts as an intern and he said it was an easy decision to welcome him to the department full-time.
DeFoor and Pastal were joined by IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll, PASSHE Board of Directors Vice President Sam Smith, Director for IUP’s Career and Professional Development Center Tammy Manko, and Senator Joe Pittman.
Pastal has been working with the department since January.
