Without taking the ice, the Penguins were eliminated from the playoffs last night when the Philadelphia Flyers pulled their goalie in a tie game and gave up the winning goal in a 2-1 loss to Washington that clinched the Eastern Conference second wild card for the Capitals. The Flyers needed to win in regulation in order to keep their playoff hopes alive, so they lifted their goaltender with three minutes left, allowing TJ Oshie to score into the empty net for the Caps.
Had Philly won in regulation, the Pens still would have been eliminated, because Detroit beat Montreal, 5-4 in overtime.
The Penguins will close their season tonight at New York against the Islanders. You’ll hear the game on 92.5 FM U92 starting at 6.
