On Wednesday, IUP will see some artwork on the sidewalks of the Oak Grove as the annual “Chalk on the Walk” will take place.
The event, also known as the IUP Sidewalk Commentary Contest, will allow students or student groups to create chalk art to represent their points of view from 9-5 on May 1st. Cash prizes of $100, $75 and $50 will be awarded to the top three winning entries. This year marks the 32nd edition of Chalk on the Walk, as the 2020 event was cancelled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The event consistently draws around 100 entrants each year. Topics for this year’s Chalk on the Walk are expected to range from politics to the environment.
The contest is sponsored by the IUP National Art Education Association, the Graphic Design Student Association, IUP’s Marketing and Communications, the Student Co-Op, Lively Arts and the college of arts and humanities. A rain date of May 3rd is scheduled in case the weather turns sour.
