Just before noon yesterday, the Penguins announced they fired assistant coach Todd Reirden, ending his second tenure with the team.
Over the last four years, he has overseen the team’s defensemen and the power play. The power play unit has been lacking over the last few seasons and that may have been the main reason for the team parting ways with him.
In a statement, Pens President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas said that he and Head Coach Mike Sullivan had been evaluating the coaching staff, and said the change was in the best interest of the team.
