Eleanor J. (Sebring) Goss, 89, of Marion Center, died Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Embassy of Hillsdale Park. Born March 21, 1935, she was a daughter of the late, Harold Sebring and Elsie (Bartlebaugh) Sebring. She was the widow of the late Valgene E. Goss.
A graduate of Marion Center High School, Eleanor had previously worked for Valley Dairy in Indiana and at the former Pantal Hotel in Punxsutawney. She later worked for the Ideal Toy Company, organizing home parties to showcase the newest children’s toys.
Most of all, Eleanor loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was a mother of seven, grandmother of seventeen, great grandmother of thirty and a great great grandmother of eight.
Eleanor founded several area majorette squads, among those were: the Commodorettes; Clymer Fire-ettes; and the Dixonville Dixies. She also supported local fire companies and organizations by cooking food for fundraising campaigns.
She is remembered by her children: Rick Goss (Pat); Terry M. Goss (JoAnn); Montey J. Goss (GeGe); and Marty Goss (Traci), all of Marion Center. She is missed by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren who were mentioned above. Her living siblings are: Ethlyn Howells, Marion Center; Donna Smith, Tennessee; Jim Sebring, Marion Center and Norma Hupp, Florida. Also surviving are her numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by three children: Cindy Goss, Donald “Donnie” Goss and Cathy Peles. She was also preceded by her grandson, Chad V. Goss; daughter-in-law, Sandra Lee Goss and by her sister, Elaine Burkett.
Visitation is Saturday, June 8th from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM at Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home & Crematory of Clymer, (655 Franklin St.). Her funeral service is Sunday at 2 PM at the funeral home. Rev. Bob White, officiating. Burial will be at Pine Vale Cemetery, Deckers Point.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Commodore Volunteer Fire Department.
