UPDATE AT 8:48 AM: All REA Energy members in Indiana County have had their power restored. Some surrounding areas like Derry and Loyalhanna Townships in Westmoreland County are still without power.
WHAT WE FIRST REPORTED
Some in Indiana County are waking up without power due to last night’s thunderstorms.
As of right now, 140 Penelec Customers and 568 REA Energy cooperative members are without power. The bulk of the outages are in the southeast corner of the county, with West Wheatfield township. Crews from both companies are working to restore power. No word yet on when power will be restored or how many people were affected by the outages.
First responders were also kept busy during the storm, with the first storm-related call coming in at 8:50 PM for a report of utility lines down on Newport Road in Burrell Township that brought the Blairsville and Black Lick fire departments out. Black Lick would also be called out for a vehicle accident at 8:54 PM on Route 119 South. At 9:18 PM, Blairsville Firefighters were dispatched to Country Lane Road in Burrell Township for a report of multiple trees down. Bolivar Firefighters were called out at 9:18 PM for a transformer fire on McKinley Avenue, followed by a call for utility lines down on Muir Road that Clyde fire department responded to at 10:04.
