Penguins GM and President of Hockey Operations Kyle Dubas made his first free agent move Monday afternoon, signing former Bruins defenseman Matt Grzelcyk to a one-year, $2.75 million deal.
The 30-year-old defenseman has played his entire eight-year career with Boston, including 63 games last year and recorded career lows in goals and assists. Grzelcyk has ties with David Quinn, as he played under him at Boston University from 2012-16. He also has a history of injuries suffering upper and lower body ailments at different times last year.
The Penguins also traded forward Reilly Smith to New York in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick.
