Spirit Alines has announced there will be a temporary cutback in the number of flights from Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe to Orlando, Florida.
The reason for the cutback, according to Spirit Airline officials, has to do with GTF Engine availability. Pratt & Whitney announced that there were problems with the engine’s powdered metals composition, and that has prompted several inspections. About 1200 airbus jets that have the engine and would need about two months for inspection and repairs. If action is not taken, the FAA says the engines could fail.
The schedule of flights to Orlando would be cut to four times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The seven day a week schedule would resume in October. It was also announced that flights to Myrtle Beach will go from seven days a week to twice a day Mondays through Fridays starting in September.
